Executive Summary

To close racial voting gaps and achieve democracy reforms, year-round civic engagement needs to dramatically increase, particularly in underrepresented communities.

Studies have shown that the most impactful civic engagement is “relational” – meaning it’s most effective to reach out to friends and family to encourage them to vote, register, or get involved in an issue.

But no one has been able to scale relational civic engagement. Until now...

In 2020, Civic Revolution drove the largest relational voter engagement campaign in history. The coalition activated its 12 million subscribers (over ¾ BIPOC) to share over 270 million personalized voting messages with friends and family, and engaged a network of influencers to generate nearly a billion views of voter education information.

This project will create a force of 100 million citizens (over ⅔ BIPOC) who share nonpartisan news, policy, and voting information with friends and family, dramatically increasing voter participation and driving democracy reforms.

Accomplishments

The Accelerate media network - the foundation of the Civic Revolution coalition - has had several accomplishments in the past year. One of our biggest successes was growing our media network. First, we significantly expanded the number of influencers and creators we work with, broadening the individuals we are engaging with our impactful digital content. Secondly, NowThis, our new media partner, holds the top positions as the world's largest social news publisher and the most engaged on US news and politics, helping to build deep relationships with youth audiences. We have grown our network 4x over the past year. This growth is critical for our ability to reach our goal of expanding our network to 100 million diverse citizens (over two-thirds Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) who consistently share news, policy, and voting information with friends and family, dramatically increasing civic engagement and pressure for democracy reform.
