Executive Summary
Since 1987 ARISE Adelante, A Resource In Serving Equality - moving forward, has been directly impacting the quality of life for residents in low-income areas of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) of South Texas who otherwise receive little to no services. ARISE Adelante is a community-based program run by, for and with the people of each of the communities it serves. Through a wide array of educational programming and personal development training ARISE inspires, empowers and advocates for 5000+ immigrant residents who live in the RGV’s 50+ colonias (low-income, unincorporated areas many of which lack basic services).
ARISE continually assesses and strategically addresses the communities’ needs through a wide array of educational programming and personal development training. Currently ARISE offers 30 different programs, all led by women from the communities served.
ARISE staff, who live in the communities ARISE serves, conduct the outreach and facilitate the connections crucial to establishing the foundation of a collaborative and trusting working relationship with the community. Staff coordinate the services ARISE offers through its five local support centers.
Focused on the emerging and changing community needs of the immigrant residents of the RGV, ARISE Adelante continues to build increased leadership skills to organize communities for social change, make an economic contribution to the RGV, and enhance the overall health and well-being of South Texas. Educating and empowering these residents provides them with the needed foundation and support to be the voices of their own needs and to use their voices as catalysts for change.
